Words From the Band Leader

Basic Notes Jazz Big band ¡§Basic Notes¡¨ was formed in October 1993 by a group of local Chinese young amateurs who were enthusiastic about jazz music which was still not so popular in the territory. After years of learning and practice, Basic Notes has given frequent performances in public on many occasions, such as at city halls, district theatres, the Culture Centre, the Fringe Club and the like. Moreover, Basic Notes was invited to participate in the Tsuen Wan Arts Festival, the Hong Kong Youth Festival, the Hong Kong Fringe Festival, the Macau Band Fair (2000 ¡V 2002) as well as the Hong Kong International Band Festival (2005). Basic Notes maintains regular practice and plays all kinds of jazz music, from introductory of Swing Jazz to Be-bop, Latin, Cuban, Funky, Rock and other popular styles.

In 2003, Basic Notes was proud to stage at our own concert for the first time, celebrating Basic Notes¡¦10th anniversary. The concert was well-received by lots of jazz music lovers who gave us tremendous support and encouragement. Since then, Basic Notes arranges anniversary and Christmas concerts every year. This year, Basic Notes is going to have our anniversary concert at Sheung Wan Civic Centre and Tsuen Wan Town Hall on 29 & 30 October 2006 respectively. We sincerely hope that we could share with you every single Basic Notes at the coming concerts.
Basic Notes is honored to be invited by Hong Kong Jazz Association performing as a combo band at Kubrick Cafe on 24 September 2006. We hope that our contribution will let more friends enjoying this wonderful Jazz Music in Hong Kong.
